Why would God make somebody gay if it's a sin?

The questions we must first ask in relation to our question:

  1. Does God author all the thoughts that we have, regardless of if they’re good or bad?

  2. Does a feeling imply a call to action?

  3. Why would God condemn someone’s desire to love?

Perhaps one of the most controversial claims the Bible makes is that homosexuality is a sin, begging the question of why God would incline people a certain way if it were indeed wrong. To tackle this, we must ask if all our thoughts and inclinations are reflective of God’s will.

As we are fallen people, our thoughts are subject to the effects of sin. The realm of sinful thoughts regarding relationships is not limited to homosexuality, however. God condemns any type of fornication, whether heterosexual or homosexual, instructing us to deny such thoughts despite having a strong desire to act on them.

God demands that we not act on our feelings but instead act in accordance with His will all the time. God’s will is a perfect will, set in place for our own good despite condemning what we see as "natural" inclinations.

God’s condemnation of homosexuality and fornication is not a condemnation of love itself but rather a condemnation of certain types that are harmful. Following God requires sacrifice, regardless of one’s sexual orientation. Jesus states:

For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it – Matt. 16:25

Although some may have to sacrifice more to act according to God’s will, everyone can be assured that if they are to follow God, they will be brought into a right relationship with a power that has a greater love for them than any man or woman could possibly provide.

The answer to why God allows people to have certain inclinations is unclear. It is without a doubt part of our fallen nature, but God could very well use this to better proclaim the good news of the gospel. Paul even writes in 1 Corinthians that it is better to stay single, if already so, as it can allow for a more dedicated service to God.

Conclusion

The bible condemns many types of relationships, but it also assures us that if we follow God's commands, we will be placed in the best relationship possible. Doing so will require sacrifice, some larger than others, yet the reward for acting in accordance with God’s will is far more rewarding than any pleasure we can find in this lifetime.
